Veterans Day

Following The Great War in 1919, it was declared that the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month be a time of remembrance for the end of hostilities and to remember the service of those who fought and served in World War I. The world would be involved in an even more destructive war shortly thereafter and the US would endure yet another war prior to a time of transient peace. In 1954, President Eisenhower would sign a proclamation designating November 11th to be a day of remembrance for all veterans who served and to acknowledge and remember their sacrifice:

NOW THEREFORE, I, DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, President of the United States of America, do hereby call upon all of our citizens to observe Thursday, November 11, 1954, as Veterans Day. On that day let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.

We at D-J can’t possibly phrase things any better than President Eisenhower did. We wish to express our extreme gratitude towards all of our brethren who served and pray that the sacrifices they have endured will live on to maintain freedom and liberty in our United States.
