Memorial Day 2025

We at the D-J staff wish to express our extreme gratitude for those of our brethren who made the supreme sacrifice such that we may live our lives in freedom in our country. Wherever, whenever, however — they chose the call of duty to our nation above all else. Every citizen of our nation owes them a debt of gratitude regardless of belief, circumstance, or personal agenda. It’s unlikely those fighting were lost in the weeds of politics or minutia. They just did what our nation asked of them to make a better world for freedom and the United States of America.

We’d ask that today you might pause and give a few moments of thought to what these finest of all Americans went through. What their families went through. And find some way to give thanks to the families who survived their loss of a loved one.

We don’t view this day as a respite for cookouts or relief from work. Rather we view it as a day of remembrance. A sober realization that whatever we can do freely now was paid for in blood by fine people we may never know. And never to forget the sacrifice they made.

There is no doubt these finest Americans wouldn’t want for the living to wallow in sorrow but instead to go on with a happy and joyful life on this planet. They might ask we reflect on the freedoms we are guaranteed by our constitution and jealously guard those such that their death not be in vain. To continue ever vigilant from threats from within and beyond and ensure under our watch these God-given freedoms not be given away for any reason. Their bravery be beyond our fear, and that we all stand watch to ensure their sacrifice for liberty not have been in vain.

As you might light your grill and gather, please consider giving a prayer for our fallen comrades. Enjoying the fellowship with friends and family and a day of joy in remembrance of our brethren from our past who gave us a future.
