We at D-J deal with a wide spectrum of clients. Most of those are very ethical and very well read employers. It’s natural that some of them might get ‘suckered in’ to propaganda, but for the most part they are well grounded objective people. Some to this day support Johnson’s “Great Society” Legislation; some are fans of “Social Security” and Medicare. And we well understand that the issue of genuine health care in this nation is so complex, high price, poorly billed, and insurance driven that there MIGHT be a solution that involves something well beyond a ‘free market’ solution. Someday–not now–we’ll address that but you’ll find our opinion surprising given our roots in an Adam Smith paradigm.
By the way, our founder will be collecting HIS “Social Security” soon ! While he laments the fact that he’ll be losing around $80,000 per year by so doing (had he invested the money in the most conservative option of FDIC or Treasury backed notes during his working years), his philosophy is “might as well collect while it’s still there; I’ve pulled the cart for enough years that it’s my time to ride in it. And of course no individual can live well with the meager pittance it’ll give them. I only hope that someday, somehow our governing body will change this such that someone who works all his life CAN get a reasonable return on the fruits of his labor. But I’ll be long gone by then so good luck y’all !”
Medicare, on the other hand, actually COULD work well. As could a version of health care coverage for all Americans. But the balance sheet right now is borne by our children and exponentially will exceed what they can deliver. There can be nothing more despicable than a parent that exploits a child, so we pray for a reasonable solution for this as well. Most of this will be cutting collateral and non-value added costs as well as administrative costs (ever seen a doctor or been admitted to hospital and filled out the volume of forms ? Imagine those cost 500 bucks an hour and you get the picture).
As such, our clients come from a wide variety of bases and they have differing views on societal interaction. We respect that. Some advocated ‘affirmative action’ (DEI being analogous to that as ‘global warming’ meets ‘climate change.’). It’s always been a failure.
Mostly because of how the role of enablers work. And how errant ‘virtue signalers’ can be in being ignorant and lacking real virtue. Treating people outside of their class as ‘pets’ and denying their humanity by supporting legislation that keeps them beneath their feet.
Something like “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” always sounds great. We mean, who wound’t want a diverse work force (meaning a bunch of different backgrounds with CRM-style different opinions) ? Who wouldn’t want a CRM-style Inclusion of different options and opinions during a strategic or tactical decision ? And who wouldn’t want “Equity” ?
That Ain’t DEI.
“DEI” is a coerced and forced occupation of a workforce by people of ‘approved’ genders, colors, sexes, origins, religions and beliefs.
That’s DEI. Ya gotta hire demographics from colored folks (and of particular subsets within this), women, trannies, LGBT, ‘free Palestine’ radicals’ and whatever else some government or ‘woke’ virtue signaler determines is the right (arbitrary) ‘mix.’ And make sure you got the slots (according to their arbitrary ‘mix’ of how your workforce spectrum should be). Regardless of your circumstance or profession. Or who does what well. And gotta promote those (for equity of outcome) regardless of merit. To achieve their arbitrary numbers. Just like was the case to ‘balance’ the slots of DNC leadership during their last appointment of officers. There’s no openness, no opportunity, no objectivity; it’s a form of arbitrary discrimination and bigotry. We at D-J believe discrimination is discrimination; no matter how it occurs or whom it targets. And is ALWAYS unacceptable.
Still sound ‘good’ ?
When we receive these clients we ask them some simple questions. “How many women plumbers have you seen when you’ve had a plumbing call ?” “How many ladies do you see when your garbage crew comes by ?” “How many women welders have you seen working on your buildings ?” “When you’ve had an HVAC call to install a new system, how many of those folks have been women ?” “How many guys do you see that have the patience to sell your wife perfume ?” “The last time you were in Victoria’s Secret with you wife or mistress or significant other, how many guys did you see on staff ?” “During your last oil change or service on your car, how many women did you see working on your car ?”
And the question usually answers itself.
Certainly ANY woman could service ANY automobile on the road today–likely more precisely and maybe with more care than any male. And any woman could crew a garbage truck or handle an HVAC call. A woman plumber might handle the call much better than a man looking for some cash. But the overwhelming majority of mechanics, welders, HVAC, plumbers, and garbage truck workers are male. And the overwhelming majority of lingerie salesmen are women.
Why ?
Who cares ?!?
THAT’S how the job market has fulfilled the desires, skill set, and capabilities of the workers. That’s how it works with employee and employer desires. To aim to shift it would hurt those who’ve determined what they like to do, what they’re good at, and their life goals–delegating that to some third party bureaucracy.
And THAT’s what DEI tries to do.
One of life’s blessings is that one discovers ones’ skill set. And mates what one desires with what one is good at. We all get different skills; we all get different desires. They are all individual and we go through life trying to find out what we’re good at and enjoy doing it. DEI places a person in a pigeonhole; where instead of trying and failing and trying again one winds up doing what he or she might not be good at or not really wanting to do; placed there from above with a viscous enabler out for himself or herself.
But where is DEI truly ‘EVIL’ ; why do we make the point.
Because DEI does and will always mean “Didn’t Earn It.”
Even if you actually did.
The reason that we — and most truly colorblind and equal opportunity people oppose it — is we vehemently despise bigotry and prejudice; having seen this across the world (the Middle East–with their ‘class’ system–and parts of Asia are racist beyond comprehension of most Americans). The military was one of the first fully colorblind entities in our nation (the joke was always we don’t discriminate according to race, color, creed or ability–this wan’t true as far as ability but when I joined our military WAS truly colorblind. Women in combat was a different issue from a cultural perspective but it changed too).
We saw things becoming truly equal and that was a blessing.
But then we saw racism and division creeping back in; through DEI ‘woke’ ideas of virtue signaling by people without virtue and exploiting others.
The REAL people that DEI hurts–and why it’s truly EVIL– are those it pretends to protect, advance, or advocate. That’s who it threatens. Because in the back of the individual’s mind will always be the question “Did I REALLY earn this ? Or did someone kick me forward because I was black, woman, gay, whatever ?” It destroys legitimate achievement and pride. And it steals the unbiased life changing accomplishment of “I did it !”
