We were a bit taken aback when one of our clients brought this to our attention. Apparently, the Earth’s rotation rate has been increasing since 2016. Since there aren’t any known forces externally applied to make this happen, why IS it happening ? We proposed this question to our chief engineering consultant to get his take on it:
“It’s tough to figure; SOMETHING must be affecting the Earth’s moment of momentum (i.e. angular momentum) while at the same time providing the energy to cause the increase of rotation (as you may know, just like kinetic energy is the sum of the mass times the velocity squared, the rotational energy is the moment of inertia times the angular velocity squared. When an ice skater or ballerina goes from a slower twirl to a faster one, she must apply force with her arms to allow the rotation rate to increase; the force over the distance being equal to the energy required to accelerate the rotation in that it varies with the square of the angular velocity). This energy could only come from nuclear reactions inside the earth, or from solar input to the earth. Very little change is ever made to the mass of the earth; we only lose what we shoot into space and to some extent some of the air as it drifts outward (which we don’t really lose; it just moves a bit further out).
Since this rapid increase has been happening only recently–since 2016–when I began my analysis obviously I’d looked to what had changed. The most obvious change being the increasing reliance on so-called ‘renewable’ energy; particularly wind–and to a lesser extent solar. And therein is the key. Wind turbine fields have increased by over an order of magnitude during this time period without any meaningful environmental study being made and been allowed to pollute unabated–even encouraged by our Federal and State governments. This pollution is making our planet spin faster.
Wind turbines work by extracting energy from a moving air mass–an air mass that would otherwise be unencumbered across the ground. They’re not particularly efficient in so doing; perhaps similar when one looks at it to a superheated coal fired steam power plant–but the wind is viewed as ‘free’. So there’s no perceived direct loss. HOWEVER, that air mass loses velocity due to the energy extracted (roughly double) as well as has an adiabatic compression factor when hitting the blades. The net result is that not only is there a reduction in velocity but also an increase in heat AND a tangential vector imposed on the moving air mass–particularly in the upward direction directly and indirectly through local ‘bounce’ interactions. The wind turbines’ effect on the flowing air being analogous to a blockage in a large heat exchanger, condenser, or boiler. This effectively results in warming temperatures across the surface which was previously cooled by the air mass. With solar, we do get some direct warming and insulation effects near the surface as well. Realizing that wind turbine fields take up some MASSIVE amounts of space and disrupt air masses for millions of square miles.
As a direct result of this, the earth is unable to shed her heat from the surface towards the airmass properly. Since the core DOES heat itself partially through nuclear reaction, this propagated heat results in intermediate strata (which was formerly solid) becoming liquified at greater distances from the liquid core–which then–being pulled by gravity migrate towards the center of the earth. Effectively decreasing the earth’s angular momentum and resulting in an increased rotation rate. Which will continue to increase unabated so long as large wind turbine fields are constructed.
The science behind this is settled and irrefutable.
As such, by ‘investing’ in renewables–and migrating away from carbon based fuels or nuclear–the human race is dooming itself to destruction within perhaps 20 years. It’s a true climate crisis; the earth is accelerating unabated. We are just short of the exponential turn of our climatological models (which don’t exactly resemble a hockey-stick but are somewhat close). While it won’t result in people being flung into space, the climate effects should be obvious. Plants will have sunlight which is interrupted by darkness at an increasing rate which will result in widespread agricultural calamity — effectively starving large portions of our populations. Weather patterns will drastically shift leading to widespread destruction. Animals and livestock will die from being unable to adapt to the circadian effects of a few hours between night and day. None of our power grids are set up to be able to handle this transition. Not to mention the psychological and physiological effects on human beings and pets. Unless we do something immediately our planet will die.
The ONLY course of action is the immediate destruction of wind turbine farms and replacement with coal and nuclear power plants. These will occupy far less area and have far less of an environmental footprint. The future of our planet–and the human race–is at stake.”
Of course, our engineering consultant said this a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it’s important to realize that HIS team’s theory uses numbers on par with the IPCC’s so called climatological studies and of exactly the same data accuracy. The science behind our man’s assessment is as scientifically valid as the ‘science’ behind the man-made CO2 causing climate change theory. We can neither help nor harm Mother Earth (being able only to temporarily tame her for our use) — but we CAN help or harm the human race. We can’t kill the planet, but we CAN kill human beings through embracing some marxist decarbonization scheme–one wholly unsupported by science and wholly undesirable on any level.
